We’re 24 days away from my favorite holiday of the year — December 25th.

Yes, because it’s my birthday… and yes, because Santa Claus is one of the greatest parenting leveraging tools ever created. (Don’t judge. You do what you have to do.)

When I think back to Christmas as a kid, I remember the magic of it all: The dreaming. The lists. The courage to write down exactly what you wanted and believe — even for a moment — that it could happen.

That’s the real lesson. Before we ever unwrapped a gift, Christmas forced us to think, decide, and declare what we wanted.

Sometimes you got the exact thing on your list. Sometimes Santa missed. But either way, the lesson never changed:

You have to KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Fast-forward a few decades, and now I spend my days helping leaders and organizations shrink the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Before we talk culture, strategy, deliverables, or org charts, I always start with one question:

“What do you want?”

Some leaders fire off an answer. Others need time. But here’s the truth:

You cannot pursue greatness if you’re unclear on the destination.

Just like when we were kids at Christmas, clarity requires space. It asks us to slow down long enough to identify what we want… and be courageous enough to share it with the team that will help us get there.

And as we look ahead to 2026, I want to challenge you:
Be patient enough to write it down.
Be courageous enough to share it.
Be disciplined enough to pursue it.

Because clarity isn’t just motivational — it’s transformational.

Here’s what leaders gain when they truly know what they want:

  1. Clarity focuses your energy.
  2. Clarity prompts decisive action.
  3. Clarity increases motivation, confidence, and momentum.
  4. Clarity aligns your behavior with your identity and values.
  5. Clarity improves long-term well-being, satisfaction, and performance.

This is the season when kids boldly ask for what they want. As leaders, it’s our turn.

Know what you want — because you just might get it.

YOUR PURSUIT OF GREATNESS

Before the year ends, carve out one uninterrupted hour. No meetings. No phone. No noise. Write down exactly what you want in 2026 — personally, professionally, and as a leader. Then pick one person on your team and share it with them. Let clarity activate accountability.

Have an incredible holiday season.
